I heard about collagen for the first time a few years back and for some reason it kinda freaked me out a little. I had just started on my journey of eating healthier and cutting out processed foods. I just imagined that it would taste weird or have a funny texture. Anyone else sabotage themselves into not liking something before you even try it? A little while later, I had completed a whole30 and saw that others eating this way, were incorporating collagen into their daily routines and I was intrigued! Before I tell you about my experience with Great Lakes collagen, let me tell you about some of the many benefits of adding collagen to your diet: •Improves health of hair and skin •Helps improve joint pain and degeneration •Great for the gut! It “seals and heals” •Provides a boost of energize •Increases metabolism •Strengthens nails, hair and teeth The list goes on and on! (For Real it does! Check out http://greatlakesgelatin.com/storefront/ for all the benefits and how collagen works to produce those benefits) So, already knowing some of the benefits of using collagen, I was excited when I got the opportunity to try out Great Lakes collagen. The timing was perfect because I was currently doing another round of whole30 and was allowed to incorporate this into my nutrition (it’s compliant yay!). My my biggest fear was taste. I chose to primarily consume my collagen with my coffee. I gave it a try and was surprised. Honestly, I was hoping for zero taste, but it does add a very slight taste to my coffee. Now, I drink my coffee black, so I would almost guarantee that if I had a flavored creamer or coconut milk or cinnamon or sugar in my coffee I wouldn’t taste the collagen at all. The flavor wasn’t strong and it wasn’t unpleasant. The best way I can describe it was almost a slight resemblance of a beef broth. Again, however, it wasn’t displeasing and by my 3rd or 4th cup of coffee this way, I stopped noticing it all together. I also played around round with mixing the collagen into different recipes. Such as, mixing it into my peanut butter raisin energy balls (YUM!) or adding it to my smoothies. I didn’t notice a change of flavor to either recipe.
Alright, so what did it do for me? Here is the experience I had from using collagen daily: •Huge boost in energy. I would struggle in the mornings, but adding collagen to my first cup of coffee, I found myself getting so much done around the house without dragging at all. •My skin showed an amazing improvement. My skin was clear for probably the first time since puberty. The first time in my adult life, I felt confident enough to not wear makeup! I know whole30 plays a part in this, but even on my previous 2 rounds, my skin never cleared up and evened out the way it has while drinking collagen. I didn’t even break out the week before my period which I ALWAYS do! •My hair and nails grew faster! Seriously they did! I actually wasn’t too excited about all the new growth with my hair since a lot of it was gray (thanks a lot motherhood) but it was proof that it was growing! I’m definitely hooked on this product now and will coninute to keep it a part of my healthy lifestyle! If you want to check it out, Great Lakes is holding a sale for 20% off with code: GLGLife20.
